Visiting Iowa

We had a grand time at Jonathan's and Kristy's.  She did have a great book collection and we indulged to an amazing degree. I enjoyed Alli Carter's spy book series. I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You. Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy,  Don't Judge a Spy by Her Cover.  I had read the first book when it was a galley-- a gift from an editor at a writer's conference.  It was one of those books: Love it.  Loan it. Loose it.  I searched for it, but the name changed.... and then there it was at Kristy's house!

It was so fun to be around the grand children.  They are smart and delightful.

Dan came to visit on Friday night and he and Rebecca spent the night out.  The kids were fine for us while they were gone.  We met up with them on Saturday at the Living History Farm.  It was cool.  We saw an Indian farm, and 1860's farm and a 1900's farm.  All were working farms with "farmers" weeding and chickens and pigs.  The 1860's farm had an ox team and the later farm had draft horses.  We visited period houses and a small town complete with bank, doctor's office, broom maker and drug store.

We watched while they hitched up the horses.  He's off to cut hay.  At the end of the day, the kids had a great time playing on these "tractors."

Sunday we went to church with them.  They had a great lesson in Relief Society about the importance of going to the temple.  Jonathan made his signature pizza for supper and it was delicious!

Monday we mostly hung out inside.  It was hot, Hot, HOT!  We did visit the sheep and the sheep dog.  The kids got the eggs from the chickens.  Some played in the pool, and Kristy's kids had swim lessons and gymnastics.  We allowed Jonathan and Kristy to have time out for themselves and we watched the children.

Tuesday we hit the road for the trip home.  Miranda and I finished listening to The Hunger Games.  It was very gripping and dramatic through the whole book and kept us awake.  We parted ways with Miranda in Carthage, MO and arrived home about 6pm.  Tom ordered pizza and it was hot and tasty.  A good end to a good trip.
